                 Phoebe Carpenter Eells

Opening Friday Sept. 21st at 6:00

Phoebe Carpenter Eells is a block print artist with a signature hip and gritty style. Her subject areas range from cassette tapes to mountains. Her design inspiration comes from everyday life and travels with her two children, husband and rambunctious dog.

Phoebe’s background is diverse in subject, just like her artwork. She is an art school dropout turned Cultural Anthropologist turned mathematics teacher turned full time artist. She enjoys riding bikes, communing with the mountains and hanging out with people who like to laugh.

Phoebe found printmaking after carving an invitation to her older son’s first birthday party. She was hooked instantly. Since then Phoebe and her company, elSage Designs, have grown steadily. For three years she balanced teaching middle school while nurturing the art business and her two boys. This past June she took a brave leap and resigned from teaching to run elSage (and hang with her boys) full time. She will miss interacting with students on a daily basis but she is proud to be pursuing her lifelong dream of being an artist.

elSage Designs is deeply rooted in the principles of sustainable & unique design. Every piece is designed, carved and printed entirely by hand in Phoebe’s home studio in Skagit Valley, WA. Phoebe strives to have all materials be socially and environmentally conscious. Her inks are all eco friendly and her paper and apparel are sourced intentionally.
